Webinar presented by Dr. Jonathan Williams, Chief Medical Officer at SouthlandMD
SouthlandMD’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jonathan Williams, recently led an educational webinar (available onsite or through Hometown Health University) focused on one of the most critical concepts in emergency medicine: The Golden Hour of Trauma. As a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and co-founder of SouthlandMD, Dr. Williams brings decades of experience centered on clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency in the Emergency Department.
The session highlighted the importance of the first 60 minutes following a traumatic injury where rapid assessment and decisive intervention can significantly impact survival and long-term outcomes. For rural hospitals in particular, where resources and transport times may vary, the ability to act quickly and effectively is essential.
Dr. Williams emphasized that life-threatening conditions such as hemorrhage, airway compromise, and traumatic brain injury are most treatable when addressed immediately. Delays in care can dramatically increase morbidity and mortality, while early interventions—including bleeding control, airway management, and coordinated response—can save lives. Importantly, trauma patients can present to any facility, regardless of size, reinforcing the need for readiness across all rural healthcare settings.
Key themes from the webinar included:
Throughout the session, Dr. Williams reinforced that preparation, structure, and confidence are key to managing trauma effectively—especially in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations. His practical approach provided attendees with actionable strategies they can immediately implement in their own facilities.
This webinar reflects SouthlandMD’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural hospitals through high-quality education, clinical leadership, and real-world training. By equipping care teams with the tools and knowledge needed to respond during the most critical moments, SouthlandMD continues to help improve outcomes when every second counts.
