- [Dr. Kristopher Palmer](http://southlandmd.com/provider-spotlight/dr-kristopher-palmer/): Why did you choose to work in medicine? I always had a knack for science, but it was when I was around 13 years old that my father became very ill and was hospitalized for almost three months. During that time I became very familiar with spending large amounts of time in a hospital. I watched as the doctors and nurses worked to bring my father back from the brink of death on numerous occasions. I developed such an admiration for the field of medicine that I knew I had to become a part of it in some way.

So when I decided to join the US Army and was given the opportunity to be a combat medic, traveling all over the world and taking care of soldiers, I knew I had made the right choice for me. I have never looked back and now have been a licensed PA for 20 years.
